A few months ago on Reddit, a Runescape participant came forward, stating that, due to what he called a"serious data breach," he dropped about 45 billion coins in RuneScape gold. Of course, additional Runescape players and Reddit users dismissed his claims, presuming it was his fault. Nonetheless, it seems like the joke was on them, however, as it's authentic. Luckily, Jagex confirmed that the breach resulted in no stolen credit card or banking details.
"During our strict routine system checks, irregular action was identified on small number of accounts, including the movement of riches and items back to the live game.
Following our investigation, we could resolve the problem prior to any significant impact was made to the game, or market. We have taken measures to return things and GP to any accounts that were affected. Whilst we don't return items or stone, we feel that given this odd situationwe wanted to guarantee no Runescape players dropped out into a member of staff's rogue actions.
On account of the real-world value the digital coins hold, Jagex is now working alongside the authorities. They've identified the employee as Jed Sanderson in the middle of all this. All told, he stands accused of stealing in excess of roughly 100 billion coins in total. This is worth over $100,000 on markets that are gold-selling.

Some Runescape players have linked Jed, allegedly. DDOS attacks have been used by this group on Runescape competitions during tournaments. 1 such incident happened during a Runescape tournament where 20k was on the line.
One has to feel for this poor Runescape player. He must have spent hundreds of hours making those coins and building this stash up. And afterward, it was all taken away by a greedy employee. This may serve as a warning. They may want to delve deeper in their workers' backgrounds before giving them moderating privileges.
