I competed PoE trade currency in both of them, and at Mayhem, I had been lucky enough to win 2 prizes for being in the top 5 of two courses. The experience of pushing for a win (also known as a Demi, following the prize, Demigod's Dominance) was unquestionably a grueling one, also took a significant quantity of practice. If you would like to go to get a Demi of your own, here are some tips for racing in Path of Exile which should help.

This is easily the main tip. If you are going to try to get a Demi, you are likely to get to put in a great deal of hours. In case you have other obligations during the time period, or can't play extensively due to your work schedule, you are going to be hard pressed to win. Not to say it's impossible, but it'll be quite hard. There is nothing worse than coming sixth position and just missing a Demi since you could not put in enough hours.

If you plan to go for a Demi but either can't or do not need to play 24/7, do not play Softcore. The best five Path of Exile players from every course in each league get Demis. The Softcore Path of Exile races don't have permadeath, and as a result, they're a total grindfest. The people who may grind the most will win every single moment. I knew I would not have the ability to commit to this amount of play time, so I chose the Hardcore leagues instead.

On a similar note, it's worth avoiding the 'popular' classes. Part of the reason I managed to win 2 Demis in the same race was because I chose two quite unpopular classes--I did not need to cheap poe currency compete against teams, also I was able to move up the ladder immediately.
